I’m not and never have been navy, so take my thoughts on this in that light
1) the magnets have a finite life and will need frequent replacement. The system will need to be recalibrated after any magnet swaps.
2) the magnets are rare earth and while made in California are made with components from china, having a critical component coming from a likely adversary is a bad idea.
3) The magnetic spike every time the new ones fire is supposed to be detectable,
I agree with you on that point!
But the thing that really worries me is the issue of exhaustion. As I read an article a while back about how the Navy especially our Pacific Fleet is vastly overdoing it. With extremely long deployments, little shore leave etc.
Now consider this one. Remember the Forrestal and what happened to it during Vietnam? Same story, the Kids were working their butts off to get the job done. Then somebody was not paying attention and we almost lost a Flattop* and a lot of good men.
All I can say is that may God look after our men as they go down to the sea & ships!
