SW Model 28 Highway Patrolman

My first handgun. I wanted a 27 but in 1978 in college as a freshman did not want to spend that much. I did buy the bigger and nicer grips to go with it.
No I was not 21 but that’s another story.

People ask why not a colt python. I never could hit with the python. Anyway after several thousand rounds it was smooth like a python.
Never got the 27 but finally got a 29. 29’s were in such a demand you almost had to have cop connections to get one.
There are plenty of Texas state troopers who walk crooked from carrying the 28 but after five or six shots they still had a formidable club in their hand.

Greetings to our Best Ally, Texas!
You know, it always amazes me on how great minds think alike. Since I had the same problem, at the same time while in College but out here in LA. This was when the insanity had just started out here. But honest folks here could still enjoy the sport of shooting.

That & I have to agree with your Cops opinions about Smiths. Seeing that if a Texan Cop says something about a gun. You generally are wise to take that into consideration. So as you can guess by now. I’m still a huge fan of the Model 29 as long as it has some hot loads in 44 Special in it.

I also had the same problem when I was FINALLY able to get my mitts on a Python. Seeing that it’s easier to find a 14 year old virgin out here. As you would once in a Blue Moon see one at the range. But forget about seeing one for sale. (The first one I got was because I was a good buddy of the Gun Shop Owner. Thanks Jeff!)

But I now see them as more of a great investment than as a shooting iron. That & they are no where as tough as most Smiths were of the same era. Yeah I know that I will be burned in effigy by the Python Crowd out there for saying this.

So as I have found out over the years that while I love Colt Revolvers. The only one that has never let me down was the Colt Officers Model in 38 Special. That my wonderful Son now has. But that is another story for another day.

Anyways, Thank You for the great feed back!
