Another Reason Why the Smith & Wesson 686 is the Greatest Gun Ever Made BY ROBERT FARAGO

The rabbi lent me two of his Ruger SP101s for Sam. The Jewish gun guru can’t get his head ’round the fact that Her Indoors home carries a Smith & Wesson 686 on her hip, and plans on continuing to do so as and when she gets a concealed carry permit. “The gun weighs more than Sam does,” the rabbi pronounced, exaggerating only slightly. The stainless Rugers sported two-inch and three-inch barrels. Sam shot them alongside her Smith (which used to be my Smith, around the time of my last birthday). Sam couldn’t hit squat with the Rugers, and didn’t enjoy the experience. She shot nice tight groups with the four-inch Smith and smiled that crooked little smile of hers. .357? Even better. And now survivalblog.comhas the low-down on barrel length and .357 ammo that proves that Sam does, indeed, own the perfect gun. Well almost . . .

The power of the .357 is greatly affected by barrel length. The .357 seems to hit its prime at 6”. Any shorter and a lot of power is lost any longer and you are toting a gununnecessarily to [sic] big. If you look at the charts made by the gentlemen at Ballistics by the Inch you will see that the difference between a 2” barrel and a 6” barrel is upward of 700 ft/sec of velocity. If you use this info and plug it into the [Energy, Momentum, and Taylor KO (TKO) Calculatorcalculator you will see that your values skyrocket as the barrel length increases. Using the data on a Corbon 125 grain JHP a 2” barrel yields an energy of 226 ft/lbs, momentum of 16, and a TKO of 5. Now you plug in the data from the same round out of a 6” barrel and you get an energy of 816 ft/lbs, momentum of 30, and a TKO of 10.

Now that’s what I call stopping power. Although yes, shot placement. The bottom line: six is better than four but four is better than three and three is a LOT better than a snubbie. In terms of recoil control, accuracy and stopping power, bigger is better. Although yes, shot placement. And no way Sam could schlep a six-inch Smith & Wesson 686-6. She’d end up walking funny. If you know what I mean.

Now for some really Old School Guns – The Matchlock!

Someday if I ever get the Chance to. I would really like to fire one of these Old Timers off.
As it is the closest that I have gotten to one of these. is when I was allowed to fire off a 1861 Springfield.
Up in the Angeles National Park, when it was still allowed back in the late 1980’s. Sadly that activity has been banned by the Government Folks.
I guess that too many people were having too much fun! Grumpy

One of the Best looking Krags that I have ever seen!

A completed 6.5 X 55 Norwegian Krag pre-war sporter

This is a new build of a typical pre-war sporter in the style of the great custom makers of our country such as Ludwig Wundhammer.  He was one of the early custom rifles makers with contemporaries like Neidner, Sedgley, and Griffin and Howe.
Ludwig is the man who the palm swell, or Wundhammer swell is named for,  which this rifle exhibits.  Most of the sporter Krags in this country were built on the 30-40, 30 US caliber,  version by returning soldiers who needed a hunting rifle.
My grandfather purchased his service rifle 30-40 Krag for $7.00 when he mustered out of the U.S. Army.  His was customized by Pennsylvania gunsmith, Louie Gensel and passed down to my father, Benjamin Franklin Gordner Jr.
I own this rifle today.  I always admired my Grandfathers rifle and searched for many years to find a Norwegian Krag rifle to sporterize.
This rifle is the culmination of many years of dreaming it into reality.  I wanted to create a copy of something Ludwig Wundhammer may have built in his shop since we  share a German heritage.
I ordered a custom barrel with a 1:8 twist to accommodate the big bullets the old timers used in this caliber to hunt moose in the old country.
The 6.5 X 55 Swede  was loaded with 156 gr. round nose bullets.  Today Hornady makes a 160 gr. round nose which I load for elk hunting. The Lyman receiver sight was the finest sight available in the pre-war period before scopes came into vogue.
I copied the comb dimensions Wundhammer used, which Colonel Townsend Whelen believed were the most perfect fit:  1 3/4″drop at nose, 3″ drop at heel, from line of sight.
These dimensions line up the iron sights exactly.  The color case was performed by Doug Turnbull.  I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do shooting my Norwegian Krag.

3D-printed gun maker Cody Wilson charged with sexually assaulting underage girl

Wilson, last seen in Thailand, is now considered a fugitive by US authorities

Chris Messina

Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson — known for his fight with the US government over 3D-printed guns — has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor, according toThe Austin American-Statesman.

The Statesman reports that police filed an arrest warrant for Wilson today in Travis County, Texas, alleging that a girl under 17 years old (the state’s age of consent) said Wilson paid her for sex after meeting on a site called SugarDaddyMeet.com.
The Statesman reports that jail records show Wilson had not been booked as of Wednesday morning, but police had corroborated the story with hotel records and surveillance footage. Wilson did not immediately respond to a phone call requesting comment.

According to the Statesman, Wilson began corresponding with the girl (whose identity has not been revealed) in August under the name “Sanjuro.”

He then revealed his name and described himself as a “big deal,” and the pair allegedly exchanged nude photos before meeting at an Austin coffee shop on August 15th, then returning to a hotel room.
The girl later told a counselor that she had been paid $500 for sex with a 30-year-old man, and the counselor reported the incident to police, who interviewed the girl in late August and identified Wilson from his account profile pictures.
The affidavit for the arrest warrant states that Wilson is charged with second-degree felony sexual assault.

A very detailed affidavit for arrest warrant in Travis County, Texas, alleges 3D printed gun blueprints maker Cody Wilson met a 17-year-old girl through http://SugarDaddyMeet.com , and they had sex in an Austin hotel.

In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the Austin Police Department stated that Wilson’s last known whereabouts were in Taiwan, where he had skipped a flight back to the United States. “We don’t know why he went to Taiwan, but we do know that he was informed that he was being investigated,” said Commander Troy Officer, according to Ars Technica.

Officer also said that the victim was 16 years old, and that detectives who had interviewed the girl found it unlikely that Wilson would have mistaken her for someone over the age of consent. “If someone mistakes their age, it’d be because she’s younger not older,” he said.
Austin police are now cooperating with US Marshals and international partners to arrest Wilson.

Later on Wednesday evening, the US Marshals Service released a “wanted” posted for Wilson, detailing the charge against him and encouraging people to contact the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force with information about his whereabouts, according to reporter Tony Plohetski for the Austin American-Statesman:

@tplohetski

NOW: U.S. Marshals release “wanted” poster for Cody Wilson, maker of so-called 3D guns.

Wilson, who describes himself as a crypto-anarchist, has fought a years-long battle to distribute blueprints for 3D-printed firearms in an attempt to make American gun regulations unenforceable.

His company Defense Distributed developed a working 3D-printed single-shot pistol called the Liberator in 2013, drawing the attention of the State Department, which ordered him to pull the blueprints offline.
Wilson later sued the government, and the case went to a settlement in mid-2018, granting him the right to distribute printable gun files, which he eventually started doing last month via flash drives.

Wilson has also worked on a cryptocurrency project called Dark Wallet and is the creator of Hatreon, a currently defunct crowdfunding platform that supported “alt-right” white nationalists who were kicked off more mainstream funding sites like Patreon.

Update 9/19 6:00PM ET: Updated with details from press conference.

Okay let me get this right. A Man makes something the Government really does not like. So it does its best to stop him. But the Man puts up one Hell of a fight over it. Right so far?
However the Man then does something really stupid. By letting his little head do his some of his thinking, With a 16 year old Hooker no less.
I am also willing to bet that if she was a 17+ “girl”. There would not be a problem here. I also hope that she gave him a hell of a good ride for his $500.  But I kind of doubt it. However that is another story for another day.
So call me Cynical, But here is how I see it so far.
Because of this stupidity.  The Feds then sees their chance to nail this Old Boy & make him a guest of the State.
But The man, who has been probably tipped off by somebody. Wisely flees the scene by going to Asia. Before they can introduce him to his cellmate called Bubba & tossing the salad.
(You really do not want to know what that means by the way!)
We also will soon find out how much cash the guy has & how quickly it disappears then the G Men are after you!
Bottom Line – This sounds and smells like a huge pile of brown sauce to this old fart.
Anyways, Your comments are welcome by the way!            Grumpy

Now I would not trade Mrs. Grumpy for one of these outstanding Pistols. But I am sure that she would be mighty nervous before I said ‘Thanks but No Thanks!”.

The other issue would be the Ivory Grips. As I am sure that some jerk out there would make an issue about those silly rules now in place. About if & when you can put some Elephant teeth on your property. Deleted 10,000 word rant about  Government over reach and The Nanny State!
