M1941 Johnson Field Strip

I passed up one of those in a gun shop in College station. My daughter was in college at Texas Animal and Manure University at the time. It was a hair under 5k.
Not sure I made the right decision. I had already spent many thousands of dollars in TAMU and was feeling weak in the pocket book. If it had been in a little better shape I might have it now.
Kind of a grail gun at this point

Dear Jimbob,
Well here are my two bits about the 41 Johnson. As I was lucky to shoot a round or two out of one at Angeles Range. When some kind soul let me crank off a few rounds with his.

Now the good news is first!

As the one I shot was in really good shape. Some of them must have had a very tough war and it shows! While this one had some very good looking wood furniture on it. Plus the metal, I would have rated it at NRA Better.

Now the not so good news. For me at least, I was not impressed with the sights. The rear sight was just a piece of steel with a hole in it. While the front sight was a bit better.

But I do seem to remember that I did get two rounds on the black. But they were not the best pattern I have ever shot. Although the recoil was not bad. Yeah I know! If I want a good pattern. Then shoot a 1903!

Also the rifle itself did not have the balance that a M 1 has. As it seemed to be a bit nose heavy for me. Plus it just felt overall to be heavy to me.

Now for my final humble opinion. I think that if you want a good investment gun / Gun safe Queen then go get one. The same would go for oh say a Colt Boa! As guns like them are a very solid investment.

BUT I also think that you did the wise thing by passing it up. Seeing that $5 K is a hell of a lot of money! What with cash like that you could have gotten a couple of Pythons or two or three Pre 64 Winchester model 70’s. Before inflation has made all of these guns ridiculously expensive that is.

I myself will always, remember the times when the Son & Heir was at U.C. Davis. Then came Law School at Washington & Lee and now he is getting an MBA from Chicago! (I have such a lazy boy!)

So as you can see, my Son has turned out to be my second best investment. My Wife with her Ph.D is the first! As you can now see I am guilty of being just a little proud of my family!

Anyways I have found out that having a couple of extra bucks available is always a good thing! Even if I had to pass on a few deals in my life. But hey that’s just life!

Grumpy who talks too much at times!
