Boy is that guy exhausting. Sure, if you want to go down the high-BC rabbit hole there are gobs of new cartridges to play with. Face it, most of us are not 1,000 yard shooters as much as we like to think we can routinely make those shots. The 308 is probably the best all-around cartridge for performance, versatility, bullet and powder selection, case life, recoil manageability, etc. As with all good things, it does all well enough and none exceptionally. Unless you are a trained sniper or a practiced long-range shooter, it’s all you could ask for.
I could hit minute-of-man in 1969 using M80/M14 at 500 yards with iron sights. Still can. Case closed.
I too at times miss the Green Machine and its toys!
Yes he can at times be a motor mouth. But it is better than say “ugh good round, used it”
